Rodborough Curriculum Intent - Unlocking Potential

At Rodborough, we deliver a knowledge-based curriculum designed to promote equity and raise attainment, ultimately unlocking the potential within every child. Our academic framework strives for excellence while ensuring a sense of belonging for all students. This ambition is underpinned by our core values—Respect, Resilience, Reflection, Resourcefulness, and Responsibility—which are developed through our academic, pastoral, and extra-curricular life. We ensure that every student leaves Rodborough equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence required to navigate the next stage of their learning journey and contribute meaningfully to society.

We take immense pride in our team of passionate subject specialists, whose expertise ensures that every student experiences both the joy of learning and the satisfaction of academic success.  Recognising that a strong curriculum is never static, we treat its development as a rigorous, ongoing process of reflection and refinement. Continuous professional growth is a core strategic priority; we provide the collaborative space for teachers to review their subject-specific pedagogy, ensuring that high-impact teaching strategies are intentionally applied across the school.

Our curriculum is intentionally structured around ‘big ideas’ and threshold concepts, providing a coherent sequence that allows all pupils to access learning and build their knowledge incrementally. To support long-term memory and reinforce understanding, we utilise evidence-based pedagogical strategies, including interleaving, spaced practice, and retrieval practice.  Literacy is deeply embedded across the entire school; we operate on the principle that every teacher is a teacher of reading, writing, and oracy.

Our curriculum is supported by a rigorous approach to assessment, where both formative and summative methods are used effectively to track progress, identify learning gaps, and provide prompt, targeted interventions.

Vlth Form Provision

Our VIth Form partner is Godalming College. Godalming College offers outstanding post-16 provision and, as a feeder school, our students are guaranteed a place if they meet the academic criteria. We work closely with Godalming to ensure that there is a smooth transition from our upper school into further education. Whilst over eighty percent of our students move to Godalming, we ensure that students are supported to make the right choice for them post-16. As well as Godalming College our students go on to attend Guildford, Alton and Farnham Colleges. They receive independent advice to help them in those decisions in addition to our own guidance programme.
